AI Food Recognition by Photo + Custom Food

Snap a photo of your meal and AI recognizes the name, portion, calories and macros — review and save it as a custom food.

Can’t find what you ate in the food library? Just snap a photo and let AI handle it. It recognizes the food’s name, portion, and calories, and even estimates protein / carbs / fat for you. Double-check, save, and it becomes a custom food you can log anytime.

How to Use

  1. Open Create a Custom Food. Path: Health → Diet, tap “+” on a meal to open “Add Food”, switch to the “Custom” tab, and tap “Create a Custom Food”.
  2. Snap or pick a photo. On the “AI Food Recognition” page, choose “Snap a Photo” to take one now, or “Choose from Photo Library” to pick an existing food photo.
  3. Wait for AI recognition. “AI recognizing…” appears, and shortly it fills in the food name, unit, quantity, and calories (required), plus protein, carbs, and fat (optional).
  4. Review and edit. AI results are for reference only — tap any field to change it. Adjust portion, calories, and nutrients to match reality.
  5. Save. Tap “Save” in the top right, and this food enters your “Custom” food library.
  6. Log this meal. Back in the food list, select it under “Custom”, enter the portion you ate this time, and tap “Confirm / Log” to add it to today’s diet.

What Information AI Recognizes

  • Required: food name, unit (grams / milliliters, etc.), quantity, calories.
  • Optional: the three major nutrients — protein, carbs, and fat.
  • All editable: recognition is just a starting point. Tap to manually fix anything that’s off — your confirmed values win.

FAQ

What if the recognition is inaccurate?

Just edit it. Every field in the results can be tapped and edited — change the name, portion, calories, and nutrients to the real values, then save.

Can I create a food manually without using AI?

Yes. In “Create a Custom Food”, skip the photo and simply enter the name and nutrition info by hand — it saves just the same.

Where can I find the custom foods I created?

Under the “Custom” tab in “Add Food”, listed alongside the other foods you’ve created, ready to reuse next time. For ones you eat often, tap “Favorite” to find them more easily under “Favorites”.

How do I log it into a specific meal?

In “Add Food” for that meal, select it, enter the portion, and confirm. For the full diet logging flow, see Diet Logging & Calories.
